I’ve put together an extraordinary flight to taste.
We’ll be checking out some of my favorites and some comparisons of different batches.
Heaven Hill Select Stock 8 Year Wheated, finished in a Cognac barrel for 32 months
124.4 Bottled 10/21/14
This is my all time fav. Whiskey of the Year on SS&S for 2015
Heaven Hill Select Stock 8 Year Wheated, finished in a Cognac barrel for 27 months
124.6 Bottled 5/2/14
Private barrel for straightbourbon.com and I’ve not tasted this yet
Heaven Hill Select Stock 8 Year Wheated, finished in a Cognac barrel for 21 months
126.4 Bottled 2/29/16 – Leap Day bottle. Never to be bottled again on that date.
This was the last release and I have not touched this as well.
I had a chance to talk with Denny Potter Master Distiller at length about these products and some inside information to share from that conversation as part of this tasting. I’ll also tell you the base mashbill plus what product was dropped into the Cognac barrel and why.
Kentucky Owl Rye Batch 1 110.6 and bottled 07/17
Whiskey of the Year for many including SS&S
Kentucky Owl Rye Batch 2 101.8 and bottled 03/18
Will it live up to the hype from Batch 1?
Oh the mystery of this brand. I got to talk with Shari Carter and Dixon Dedman at length about both of these. I do know where they came from and while I can’t tell you outright, I can tell you where it’s not sourced from. A fabulous story of why they decided to release a Rye alongside the even more mysterious bourbon.
Bonus Pour
Old Carter Rye Batch 1
If we book all 20 seats or exceed $1k in donations for this tasting, I’ll pour the unicorn.
Even more interesting is the story of what Mark and Shari have been doing since the Stoli deal for Ky. Owl. I’ll even set you straight on what happened with Dixon. Oh the rumors that have been flying around will all be settled with the actual truth. My lips can only be unlocked for big bucks.
Old Carter Batch 2 has been released and if I have some on hand to share by then, we’ll open that during the bonus round as well. I’ve had it prior to release and won’t spoil to moment in advance.
Tickets are available for anyone:
$85 which includes at least ¼ oz pours of all of these products
10 seats only
If this sells out, a 2nd session will be added on the same day
Donations in excess of these prices accepted as well online.
